The best way to access this stream and also ride Lake Bistineau is to launch at the Dixie Inn Launch which is right off I-20 only about one mile and it is only one mile west of Minden, La. As it near the Interstate it makes very easy to get to. Minden is a sizable little town of 5-10 thousand and has 2-3 motels one of is very nice located on I-20. There is a 1950's-60's style motel located on US 80 only about 1.5 mile from the Dixie Inn Launch. In spite of its age it is a acceptable motel. I think its name is the Minden Motel. Minden is only 25 miles from downtown Shreveport and can be driven in about 20 minutes. I would like to point out at this time if you drive through Shreveport to Minden it is best to take the I-220 loop. It is a lost less congested, straighter and higher speed limits and almost the same distance. To ride Bayou Dorcheat and Lake Bistineau there are two fuel points on the water on Lake Bistineau. One on the extreme northern part of the lake about 35 minutes ride from The Dixie Inn Launch named Port O Bistineau. The other one is a very nice marina in the middle of the lake about one hour ride from the Dixie Inn launch. It has a board walk deck and umbrella chairs on the water in front of a two story building housing a bar at the bottom and a restaurant at the top. Could eat a meal there. Persons making this ride should take a minimum of $20 cash with them for fuel, drinks or what ever.
